Have you ever picked up a hitchhiker?
Yes, several times
many years ago. Things were a little different back then.

No, and I never
would -- too dangerous!
Melodi,

No and I don't
plan on it either

No. No getting
robbed/killed for me, thanks.

No way. But my
cousin once picked up a girl she knew vaguely from high school and it
turned out that she and her boyfriend had just killed someone. An absolutely
true story.

In 1999, I developed
cancer. I went home to be with my parents for two months while I took
radiation treatments. While I was home, I picked up a hitchiker. A teenager
who was on his way to school. I'm not sure why those things are related
- the cancer and the hitchiker - but they are. I've never picked one up
before or since.

kinda-- this lady
(she had a little boy and a big bag of groceries with her) asked me if
i could give her a ride home once in the summer. i live in a small town,
it was really hot, i think most people would have done the same.
Cara,

Nope, unless it
was a good friend of mine.
Ashley,
20
Jacksonville, FL USA
No. I rarely see
them.
Aly,

Nope - not in my
experience have I ever done that. None of my family has in recent memory,
either.
Jared
Crestline, CA USA
No.
Cathie,

Never if I was
alone. Years ago, on vacation in Arcadia Park, we gave rides to a couple
of college girls touring Maine. And once or twice in England.

Once with my father.
The hitchhiker was a kid that I went to high school with.
Laura,

Of course not...I
saw the movie "The Hitcher"...totally scary movie.
Romulus,

No, everytime I
wanted to I had to much stuff in my car.

I don't think so
unless we see someone we know who needs a ride.

Yes. Way back in
the day when I was in my 20's. (I used to hitchhike myself - with a bunch
of girls). The guy was strange very strange, saying odd, inappropriate
things like was I a playboy model, etc. I told him I was turning here
and dropped him off. That was the last time I picked up
a stranger.
Janet,

No. Have thought
of it a couple times. I did hitchhike a couple of times though.

Years
ago when I did much more driving than I do now, I used to pick up girlish
hitchhikers. The feminist rational was that if women gave these nitwits
safe rides, the nitwits had a better chance of reaching their destinations
unharmed. These days I don't see many hitchhikers, male or female.
Jill,

No,
but I think about it every time I pass one by. I never actually do it
though!
Tracy,
24
Ocean City, NJ USA
No.
I think that would be a pretty stupid thing for a woman to do.
Judy,

Easton, KS USA
Are
you crazy!?
Stephanie,
25
TX USA
No
way! And I never would! Too many horror stories start that way!
Tam
I
don't think that I have ever lived alone. I grew up in a big family and
then I got married. A few days by myself is fine but I'm a social creature
and there would be no one to talk to if I lived by myself.

I
have not picked up a hitchhiker. It is not because I have a fear of someone
doing harm to me. I have the fear that the person that I would pick up
would be the one who wanted to sing old Johnny Mathis songs at the top
of his lungs going down the interstate. Can you imagine hearing, "The
most wonderful time of the year," doing 70 miles an hour through
the night? ugh! Gives me shivers simply thinking of it.

I've
picked up a few hitchhikers over the years. One couple on the way to a
Phish concert, and another guy just on his way home from work.
