What
was the last 'quandry' you were in?I'm in one right now about what I will be doing next year at
my job. There's a lot of new stuff happening and no one can ever make promises so I have
to decide to stay in my present position or move to a new one. A difficult choice!

About five years ago I reconnected
with a childhood friend whom I hadn't seen since we
were twelve. Twenty-five years ago I heard some accurate but very unattractive gossip
about her father. Last week we were talking about divorce and she mentioned that her
father had been quite the back fence stud--to her mother's distress. I thought for a
time and then asked my friend if she'd like to hear the old dirt. She decided that she
would. She had another piece of her father's personality. Her mother was delighted by the
dirt.

I'm dealing with a situation where the
director of an organization is making the lives of the staff miserable. They complain to
me but ask me to not go to the director or the president about their complaints. Recently
the situation came to a head and I had to decide if I was going to go against their
wishes.

Well, I've never been in a
"quandry", but I have been in a "quandary" (sorry, couldn't help
pointing it out!) Just last night I had to choose which kind of bread to make... garlic or
wheat? Making the decision was excruciating as I like both so much and was going to be
disappointed that I didn't make the other... oh the humanity! I decided on garlic because
we are having spaghetti tonight and thought it would go better. (The bread turned out
great, by the way.)

My last quandry was deciding if I should
resign from my current job and accept on of two other offers I had on the table. Decided
today, and resigned and accepted a new job which starts on June 3rd.
One of the hardest decisions I have had to
make.

decided against using my agency.

That's easy...I sell things through
half.com and one of the 'rules' is that when someone
orders one of the items you are selling, you will mail it to them within 24 hrs. Monday, I
sold two items and was going to stop at the post office on my way home from work on
Tuesday and mail them off. However, I came down with the flu and had to go home from work
in a cab. I was so sick that there was no way I could go to the post office. I thought
that I would feel better on Wednesday and would somehow get to the post office but the
next day I was even sicker. And Thursday and Friday, too. Fortunately, my husband took off
Thursday to stay home and take care of me and he took the stuff to the post office and
mailed it Top Priority. So it turned out OK.

I guess the last quandary I was in was when
I had to decide to either leave my last job or stay on. I mulled it over, weighing the
good and the bad for about a full month before making my final decision. Then I really
just wanted to screw them over and leave them in a lurch...but I couldn't. Somehow, I
guess my upbringing has taught me never to burn my bridges. So I did the mature thing and
gave two weeks notice, slacking off completely during the final two days; my own little
personal compromise.
