How do celebrate a good friend's birthday?

We go out for dinner, laughs, a few drinks and a birthday present.

Janet, 44

Usually we have lunch together or we go to dinner with our husbands.

Whatever they want to do...it is THEIR birthday!

However the friend wants. If I am choosing for the friend, probably with a good dinner, either at home or in a restaurant.

However they want it to be celebrated, within reason.

Their call. I'll comply as long as it is not immoral, illegal, or too embarrassing.

Give them something I would want for myself that they would like to have as well, take them out to dinner, give them some money, etc.

Unfortunately most of my good friends live at a distance and my budget limits me to cards and perhaps, a telephone call.

With presents and sometimes cake.

Karen, 22

When I was young it was kind of 'traditional' for every kid to have a party and I was invited to all of them. Now I just give a gift and send a card.

With a homemade cake, lots of ice cream and hopefully a handpicked present that really means something to her. Lots of friends around and whatever she wants to do!

Going out, having a few drinks, playing some pool.  Nothing much, but it's always fun.

Good cheer, good cake, good conversation about lots of fond memories.

I have no friends. (im not even kidding, either.). In the past, when i did have friends, Id give them a present, and we might   go out to dinner or something, maybe.

My best friend and I celebrate our birthdays together quite often because I was born the day after her. This year I got tickets to Blue Man Group on New Year's Eve for us and we stayed the night in Chicago.

That's a touchy subject. I'm in a perpetual state of poverty, so I avoid birthdays like the plague. I usually pretend I don't have a birthday, so people don't bother to buy me a present, so I'm in to obligation to anyone else. I sort of skipped out on my friend's birthday this year, though, which I felt bad about. It was during finals, and i was sick, so I didn't really want to leave my bed. And I didn't have the time or money to get her a gift. She'll get hers soon, though--homemade gifts are the best.
