Do you like compliments more when they're about you, personally, or about things you've done?

When I was younger, I loved to hear personal compliments...how pretty I was, how nice my hair was, how "cool" I dressed. Now, however, I like to hear praises about my accomplishments, because I've worked so hard for things I've done.

I desire compliments about things I have done from everyone in the world except my husband. From him I want to hear the intimate compliments that come from sharing a life with someone. Of course, mostly I get "Did you get your hair cut?" about a month after the fact.

It depends on the source of the compliment. In a work setting, I'd rather have the things I have done acknowledged. If it is a compliment from a personal friend or relative, then I value it depending on the sincerity of the compliment.

if its something i worked hard on and am proud of, otherwise i guess i would say personal compliments are better

Either work. I'll take both when I can get them.

I've never been big on compliments. I don't know how to react to them sometimes.

The nature of a compliment is less important to me than my opinion of the person giving the compliment. Compliments from people I respect are worth far more than fulsome praise from strangers or from people I would rather not know.

I like them more when they are about things I have done. That's more important to me than complimenting my character or looks.

Usually when they're about me personally.

I like compliments when there about me, personally.

I'm not sure I understand the distinction. If you're asking, say, whether I prefer compliments about my hair or compliments about my writing, I'd say that generally I prefer compliments about my writing--but some of each type of compliment is good.

Karen, 23

I'll take a compliment any way I can get it, but I suppose for something I've done would be best.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

I like any and all compliments, but I especially like compliments about the things I have done.

Reba, 57

Both! I'll take all the compliments I can GET! haha

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

I like personal compliements better than things about my achievements.

Em, 16
Harrisburg, PA USA

I like them when they are about things I've done.

Ashley, 20

On my accomplishments which I have lots more control over. But I appreciate any compliment that someone gives to me. Although I in general don't trust compliments.

Felicia, 36

There's nothing like hearing, "You look great are you losing weight?"

Janet, 45
E. Brunswick, NJ USA

I prefer compliments on my accomplishments. Although any compliment is welcome.

Laura, 37
Lowell, MA USA

I like them better when they're about things I've done. When they're personal, I get embarrassed.

Cathie, 53

Equal, I guess. I don't get many. :-)

Firelady, 24

Things I've done. Like most girls, I have no idea how to take a compliment.
