When passing a car accident how long do you look?

Believe it or not, I've never seen one - I imagine I'd probably look until it was out of sight though.

Enough to ascertain if someone was seriously injured. A few seconds, perhaps. I prefer to watch the road so I'm not the next casualty of the accident.

Laura, 37

Unless the accident has just happened and I think I may be able to help, I look only as briefly as traffic will allow. I detest gawkers whose nosiness ties up traffic for everyone.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

I never look. I hate being stuck in traffic behind gawkers, so I don't gawk. When I get to the accident, I get to the legal speed limit as soon as safely possible.

Cathie, 53
Novi, MI USA

Long enough to acknowledge it, not so long that I end up in another one.

Alias Irrelevante

A couple of seconds - enough to get the scope of what has happened.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

I'm guilty of slowing down to stare, but not long enough to cause an accident of my own.

Ryan, 29
Morton, IL USA

I try not to look too long, but sometimes I like to see how severe it was. *blushes in shame* hehe.

Ashley, 20
Jacksonville, FL USA

I try not to... lol. I don't like to get distracted while I'm driving.

Jeremy, 15
Highlands Ranch, CO USA

Sometimes I nearly break my neck looking as hard and long as I can. Other times I don't even look.

Reba, 57
Gaithersburg, MD USA

It depends on how slow the traffic is. I usually pray that no one was seriously injured.

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

Not much if at all if It's just a fender bender. If it is a bad accident and the car looks familiar I'll look a little bit longer than if it was a fender bender. The longer your eyes are off the road the more likely you'll get into an accident yourself.

Em, 16
Harrisburg, PA USA

Not long enough to affect my driving.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

Depends. If I'm stuck directly AT the accident ... I'll take a look. If passing through and sitting in traffic, I'll look while I"m passing by. If it's something off to the side of the road and I'm freely driving by...I rarely even look at all. Weird question.

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

Just a second (it's dangerous to look at all while driving) and then I ask God to make sure everyone is OK.

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

Very little. I try not to take more than a quick, passing glance. I hate gawkers and I don't want to be one.

Doug2, 29
Overland Park, KS USA

As long as it takes me to drive past. *shrug*

Talia, 25
Redding, CT USA

I really try NOT too look. If it were me or a member of my family who had had an accident, I'd certainly appreciate discretion and privacy from other motorists. I try to do the same when I pass an accident.

Tam

Just long enough to drive by. I would stop only if I saw it happen.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

Yes.

KarenNJ
Milltown, NJ USA

I try not to.
