What
is the farthest you've ever walked? well, i walked from mcminnville, OR through layfayete, to
dundee once. god knows why. it was pouring rain and i'd say that was about twenty miles or
so. i would've had to walk back but just a minute after i turned around a huge pickup with
montana plates pulled over and a huge driver with a white ponytail rolled down his window
and told me to get in. umm...ok. so i got in, not fearing death and he took me back to
mcminnville without raping me even once. nice guy, that montanan.

Anymore I rarely walk more than a mile or
two but 10 years ago, I took part in a 10-mile walk-a-thon and 20 years ago, my
mother-in-law (who at that time was 76 years old) and I walked 15 miles to the nearest
library in a small town in Texas.

Hard to say. Ive spent days hiking, so
miles, probably/ 7-8 miles perhaps..?

Probably around a lake in northern Arizona.
The altitude was getting to me and I had to keep stopping to rest, but I made it.

I have walked 4.4 miles.

In the days of my youth, I hiked a 50 mile
stretch of the Appalachian Trail. I heard whip-poor-wills in the twilight which was a very
satisfactory experience.

In one day, I suppose that would be 9 o 10
miles...
Luki, 31

I have no idea. Probably 10 miles.

Without stopping to rest? Without turning
back? What are the limitations on this question? Probably a few miles, with
rest/refreshment stops.

I hiked about 50 miles of the
Appalachian trail through Maine and up Mt. Katahdin. I
would love someday to hike the whole 2160 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt.
Katahdin, but seriously doubt that I could take that much time off to do something like
that. Maybe when I retire?
Tam
13 miles. The loop around Red Rock Canyon.

Never really counted, but probably
in the 10-15 mile range.

I believe it would be somewhere
between 20 and 25 miles. I grew up in a podunk town in New England, which I've happily escaped from.
There was simply nothing to do as a teenager, particularly if you weren't interested
in the slim extracurricular offerings at the high school. It was more suburban than rural:
it was a dairy town into which a bunch of tech industry people had moved when Digital,
Wang, Raytheon, et al opened up plants there for the tax benefits. Small town, big
incomes: but farmtown zoning meant there were no apartment buildings, no houses built
right next to each other (a lot could be no smaller than one and a half acres). No
McDonald's. No movie theater. No ... anything. One traffic light (I remember when they
installed it), one pizza/ice cream place (I remember when it opened), one restaurant
(breakfast and lunch only). So I walked a lot. Usually in the afternoons or late at
night. I was frequently stopped by the local police -- all of whom knew my mother,
the tax collector -- because with shoulder-length hair and a ten-years-before-Columbine
trenchcoat, I looked like the kind of guy they should stop.
It was about eight or nine miles
from my house to the movie theater, Denny's, and dessicated mall at the edge of the next
town; when I could afford it, I'd walk over there, get some grapes or something at the
grocery store, see a movie, and loiter at Denny's with the rest of the nowhere-else-to-be
crowd.

Almost 6 miles - from one friend's house to
another, then to the mall where I used to hang out with friends. This was about 5 years
ago.

I remember the walk (all over Bar Harbor,
hiked about 8 small mountains) but don't have the slightest clue what the distance was.
I'll guess about 20 miles.

Not sure but one time my car broke down and
I had to walk from High School to home. The walk was a good 8 miles but I didn't complain
too bad. It was a geourgous day out. Light breeze not too warm and not too chilly. I
enjoyed it.
Stephanie, 25

10 miles. As a teenager I did the 10 mi walk
for ... I think it was the American Heart Association.
Firelady, 24

Barring hikes I did when I was a child, I'd
say about 8 miles. I don't know, though. It's easy in the city, because you can count the
blocks, but I know I've walked quite a bit when my car has broken down in the country.

One day, my neighbor, and my best friend
went on a three mile adventure to a girl's house who we did not know. One the way I had a
dead snake thrown at me, a piggy back ride, and we even passed by Doctor Doolittles house!

I once walked about 7 miles from my home to
a Korvettes store across the island...it was a hot day too! I think I was about 13 years
old at the time. Don't know what my friend and I were thinking, but we made it ... I don't
even think we bought anything when we got there!!!

I don't
know. I've never walked in a race or anything like that. I only walk for pleasure, a
couple of miles.

I once walked about 20 kilometers.

Admittedly,
I've led a very sheltered life and the most I've ever walked at once was 3 miles from my
house to a friend's apartment.
