When you do something ridiculous by accident, how much does it bother you to have others notice it and laugh at you?

2 Not much, if they aren't laughing at me but only with me because they realize that everyone makes mistakes sometimes

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

I guess it depends on how ridiculous the event happened to be. I know it would bother me to some extent...the more ridiculous, the more embarrassed I'd be.

Tam

I generally laugh with them. I may feel foolish momentarily, but it doesn't bother me much. One advantage of maturity is perspective.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

Are you kidding? I'm usually the one laughing first. It' a lot easier to get over the embarassment when I acknowledge it and release it through laughter.

Laura, 37
Lowell, MA USA

It bothers me so much because I am such a perfectionist, although I am trying not to be. I have a real fear of failure and I get really embarrassed to look stupid.

OH not at all.... in fact, I find that if I laugh hardest at my own self, others can't outdo me!

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

It depends on what it is and where I am. If its like, knocking something over, its mild embarrassment. If its like, breaking wind while in a group of friends, total embarrassment for all eternity.

Talia, 25
Tallahassee, FL USA

OH not at all.... in fact, I find that if I laugh hardest at my own self, others can't outdo me!

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

Of course, it's embarrasing, but nothing more than that. I don't get upset by it or bothered by it, just
a little red in the face.

Doug2, 30
Kansas City, KS USA

It depends on if I'm laughing too. If not, then my anger has no end...for about ten minutes.

Keri-Jade, 23
Brampton, Ontario CANADA

Well who likes to be laughed at? Laugh with me but not at me.

Laney, 50
TX USA

So far, I've laughed right along with the observer. However, I have a stomach problem and at times, pass a lot of gas. Most people ignore it, knowing it would embarass me to have someone say something. But someday someone will probably come along who will laugh at me for farting. I don't know how I'll react.

Reba, 57
Gaithersburg, MD USA

That depends on who it is and what it is and whether _I_ think it's funny.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

It really, really bothers me. I'm very sensitive and detest being made fun of or looking like a fool.

Aly, 17
Cardiff UK

I usually laugh at myself during those times but if it does bother me It just matters who's laughing if it's someone i don't know i usually don't care but if it's someone i care about it usually bothers me a little more

Savannah, 17
Melbourne, FL USA

i will probably be laughing too---this happens too much for me not to just laugh at myself about it too.

Cara, 18
Valparasio, IN USA

Not much at all, just part of the job.

Alias Irrelevante

It embarasses me to no end. I turn the brightest shade of red.

Ashley, 20
Jacksonville, FL USA

Early on, I learned to laugh at myself when I was being ridiculous. If I'm ridiculous, why shouldn't people be amused?

Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA

It depends on what the accident was. If it's something that wasn't damaging to anyone or anything, then I'd probably laugh right along with them. If it was hurtful, I would mind greatly!

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

Quite a bit. For whatever reason, I hate being embarrassed. Over the years, I have tried to tell
myself that what other people think really doesn't matter. I don't turn red and cry like I did when I
was a kid, but it still bothers me.

Cathie, 53
Novi, MI USA

Doesn't usally bother me at all. I ususally just start laughing along, so people think I did it on purpose.

Ryan, 29
Morton, IL USA

Not at all. I'll be the first one to laugh at myself.

Janet, 45
E. Brunswick, NJ USA

It bothers me briefly. I try to laugh along with the others. Everybody does goofy things sometimes.
