What do you think of the odds of a big astoroid hitting the earth?

*shrug* I haven't really thought about it. But the odds have got to be slim, because everybody knows that Bruce Willis goes into space and sacrifices himself rather than letting Earth be blown up.

I don't like to think of things like this. We have enough to worry about on this earth without adding an asteroid collision! I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but eventually it will. There have been collisions in the past, there will more in the future.

I don't think about it!

If it happens, it happens. I dunno what the odds are.

Too small to worry about.

I have no idea... just don't have the time to ponder such a poser right now.

From what I've read and heard on the radio news and science programs, very small.

Infinitesimal. Our chances of achieving world peace, universal literacy, respectable living standards for all people and pristine environmental conditions for all creatures are greater than the chances of an asteroid hitting the earth.

Who cares. What are we going to do about it anyway?

Some things are out of our control. I am not going to sit around and wait for the asteroid to hit the earth. I have better things to do than to sit and worry. Ten to one it will blow itself up anyway.

I'm sure it will happen but not (hopefully) during my lifetime.

Small and predictable. I don't anticipate seeing such an occurance during my lifetime.

Very possible, but definitely (hoping) not in my life time.

Call me an optimist, but I don't think it'll happen. If one comes close, maybe we'll have improved our anti-missile missiles enough to blow it up before it impacts.

Kinda surprised that it hasn't happened already.

What do I think the odds are or what do I think of the odds that have been mentioned already? I think the odds are slim to none and if it does happen, well, so be it. Would suck for us, but hey, we're just renting the space. I think the odds that have been mentioned are right on target... very little chance, but there is a remote possibility that a gigantic rock could eventually smack into Earth. I guess I'll just let the astronomers and scientists figure it out and I won't worry myself over it. Is it football season yet?

Oh sure, it'll happen someday. Too many of those things out there for it not. I don't know if we'll be around for it and personally I hope I'm not.

If you're going to bet, bet against. If you bet in favor of it and you win it might be hard to collect.

The odds of an asteroid hitting the earth is possible...but it is probably less likely than this purple people hitting guy at work hooking up with a woman he has the hots for...and then getting a rowhouse in Atlanta and a beachhouse in South Florida...along with all of his pooches on the perch, and frisky little fealine (Oh, I think I have been there too long, I beginning to channel that guy)...Of course, it is equally unlikely that the Taco Salad club will ever be reformed...may it RIP...

In life we have things that we know for sure, things that comfort us and hold us in the saety of their arms, why look at what might harm us. If an asteroid fell tomorrow, would you have lived your life, or would you have been dreading it every day? I would have lived!

Well, we have no way of really predicting a big impact, but most asteroids don't even come close to earth. On a personal level, you have a 1 in 20,000 chance of being hit by one, but the size could range from one big enough to cause a global catastrophe to a small pebble. Very large, catastrophic asteroids really only hit the earth once or twice per million years, which isn't often, but that leaves us with very little data.
