What has been your biggest disappointment in life?

Death

Stephanie, 27

You know, I really can't think of anything. Maybe that I let my boyfriend at the time convince me to only do summer abroad instead of my entire junior year abroad.

Laura, 38

I'm not sure. . .I have had hard things happen to me, but I can't think of any big ones that I would
actually call disappointment.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

My biggest disappointment is that I did not pursue my singing career.

Fisch, 47

Yes. Several times in my life. And the one that brings the most memorable to mind is from a friend while he was in the US Coast Guard. I loved him. I love him now, though he would not know that.

That my parents didn't live long enough to see their grandkids grow up. Other than that, my life has been relatively free of major disappointments. I've found that most disappointments aren't all
that important in the grand scheme of things, and many are blessings in disguise. I was devastated when I didn't pledge a sorority in college. I got over it. And if I had pledged, I wouldn't have
met my wonderful husband, had my four great kids, and probably wouldn't be on 2000 days, because Doug wouldn't be here.

Judy, 62
Easton, KS USA

Not in school that I remember. There was a neighbor boy who liked to pick on me when I was about 8. He must have been 10 or 12. He hit me in the stomach once and knocked the wind out of me. I thought I was dying. My parents talked to his and he let me alone after that.

Not that I don't appreciate probing questions, but I just don't have it in me to go there today. Tonight I am surprising my husband for his birthday. We are going out to eat with friends and I have hired a limo to pick us up - a stretch Excursion. I am very excited and I just don't
want to kill the buzz by thinking of disappointments. Sorry.

Cindy, 41
VA USA

My health has been rapidly failing the last few years and every year it seems that there is one more thing I can no longer do. All these small disappointments add up to one, big disappointment which is hard to take.

Reba, 57

That my parents would not allow me to go to college.

Janet, 45

Not finishing college.

When my father died in '99, my inheritance is at least a million dollars. But it's in commercial property on the feeder by freeways and hasn't yet sold. My siblings and I are waiting and it's not easy when you get excited and make plans but the money doesn't come in.

Laney, 60

I guess maybe my biggest disappointment has been that I've failed at marriage and that it has soured me to the idea of trying again.
