Only with two or three degrees of separation.

My best friend just came home from Iraq. He was there for a little over a year. He hated it and loved it at the same time. He missed home, but felt he was truly helping do some good over there. As a captain, he was mostly at the base, but he did run some missions and worked on infrastructure mostly. He's glad to be back, but he would do it again if they needed him.

Thankfully, no.

My brother is in the Army Reserves. His unit is a military police unit and they were sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the "detainees" are. I am so grateful. Conditions at the prison could be better. It's clean and fairly safe, but any prison can be dangerous and stressful to work in. Still, it's not a bad place to be compared with a war zone. We are obviously not at war with Cuba (though things are politically and economically strained). It's relatively safe.

I live in Michigan. During the winter, he liked calling me and asking me how deep the snow is. Then he would tell me what the temperature was and how he was outside playing beach volleyball and grilling in his shorts. Not a bad place to serve our country.

No. Like me, my siblings and cousins are too old. My kids, nieces, and nephews are still in school and/or are too young.
