Most of my refrigerator magnets are pedestrian and utilitarian. Edmund Scientific has a wonderful (but dull) assortment of ceramic magnets which will hold from 1 ounce to 35 pounds. I have a batch of magnets from Staples which are colorful but not particularly powerful. Several people have given me magnets as souvenirs of their travels--a gift I appreciate.
I have some random magnets from various merchants from various places where I've lived. I also have four William Wegman Weimaraner dog magnets. And my mother-in-law gave me magnets that look like slugs.
Looking at my magnets is sorta like looking at my biography. I have one from my high school, several from my university, a few from my wedding, one from my honeymoon, one from a baby shower, a few a former co-worker gave me, and some from various businesses (my dentist, the lady that sold us our house). Currently the lower parts of our fridge are dominated by Alphabet magnets in a variety of sizes and colors... The kids like to play with them.
I have a magnet from almost everywhere I have traveled (it's what I bring back for myself). That way every time I pass my fridge I can look, smile and remember my vacations.
Most of them are vacation souvenirs, mine and my relatives. Some of them are ads for realtors and restaurants, but I keep them anyway because I need them to hold the nieces' and nephews' class photos.

I don't. Except for a couple of large serving pieces stored on top of it, the exterior of my ridge is pristine.
