I can probably still change a tire. I understand from my husband that auto mechanics is no longer possible for a private individual who lacks computer diagnostic equipment.

Let me put it to you this way...if I could, that would have saved me several thousands in car repairs...obviously, knowing that, I know jack about cars...like Superintendant Chommers said on the Simpsons, paraphrasing, 'i think a car is supposed to get you from point A to point B, and on weekends point C.'

No. That's what mechanics are for.

No, I rely on professionals to do so.

No. I've never tried, and I don't intend to.

My husband and I took an auto mechanics class through the local community education system. We could tune up a car and change the oil. Nowadays, I can't fix a car. Modern cars usually have air conditioning, which really limits the available space under the hood for your tools and hands. Different cars require different oil filter wrenches. It just got to be too much of a hassle, so now I take my van to a reliable mechanic and pay the money.
