Have you ever broken the law?

Of course, all the time - usually without realising. Most were fairly trivial, but I've broken a few more serious laws.

Aly, 17

Yes.

Karen, 24

Yep, back in the day. Smoking pot. Traveling over the speed limit. Underage drinking.

Laura, 38

I've broken the speed limit on any number of occasions, along with, I'm sure, most of the adult population.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

Yes, I have the occasional heavy foot when driving, and a couple tickets to prove it.

Ryan, 29

Driving over the speed limit (and getting caught) and underage drinking are about the extent of it. There have been a few instances in younger days when I felt inclined to shoplift or destroy property, but I never followed through on those urges.

Felicia, 37
Lowell, MA USA

I've probably committed misdemeanors--although none come to mind at the moment. To my knowledge I've never committed a felony.

Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA

Yes.

i break the law on a regular basis. i guess i shouldnt admit this since i put all of my information at the end of these responses but oh well. this is as close to the diary i am supposed to be keeping as i will ever get. here goes.

lets i speed all the time. thats just something i cant help. i dont do it with my neice in the car though. sometimes when a friend is in the car i get an urge to show off or be crazy. rather stupid but i fight it off most the time.

i have the idea that i should only kill myself. i dont do that crazy swirving and cutting off stuff though. i just plan out a route between the cars that gives me enough room to go faster than them without causing too much drama on the road. i am really good at spotting the open routes and usually have a train of cars following me through them in traffic.

okay so speeding isnt that bad. i have never gotten a ticket for it either because i am very watchful when i am doing and i guess i have been lucky.

on to the more serious things. i got my first computer in 97 but i was very experienced in computers a long time before then. so having my own computer just allowed me to what i wanted in the privacy of my home instead of at someone elses house or at school.

i learned that thing inside out and tweaked it until it was pretty good for its time. then i hit the internet. at first i did the basics like finding games and programs for free with crack codes. after that i of course met people while doing this got into the hacking world. that put me on a roll. i learned enough and lets just say i was a rich little sixteen year old during that time. i got money from banks and companies using programs that were written by other people or myself with help. they skimmed off the pennies that most people take for granted.

pennies add up to a lot if you start to notice them.

i got into other peoples personal information and changed things to make them better or worse. these were only people that i knew. i dont like that random stuff because you dont know what a random persons life is like. i know a hacker with a sliver of a heart. i guess i helped and hurt a lot of people by the time i was through. of course everyone downloaded music and movies. still do. i am cheap.

off the internet and into the real world again. so different from that stuff. i guess i could have a few assualt cases if i was caught. i have fought at least once a year since i was 5. most of it was self defence but in some i did provoke it. when i got older in high school there were some that were pretty bad that i started. but the person never did anything to bring the law into it. i always tried not to hit first. there are some situations where that just doesnt fly.

i guess i am a bad girl in little ways. i cant think of anything else. i know how to do lots of illegal things but i take enough satisfaction from just knowing how to do them rather than actually doing them.

i could be held as an accomplice because i am natural born teacher so people always came to me for information and knowledge. i have shown so many people how to do things and get
out things. i take pride in knowing a lot about the law and its loop holes. i dont like surprises and i like to know the full consequences of my actions.

i guess my nose is pretty clean besides downloading. i will stop that pretty soon though because it is getting old and people are getting scared to the supply is slowly disappearing. i do still get my illegal programs every now and then. i make sure to keep in touch with old hacker friends for new things and checking out who has been taken out of commission.

I got a traffic ticket nine years ago. That's it.

Cathie, 53

Probably. Well sure, I've driven over the speed limit and have committed several other low-key "crimes." My computer has also apparently performed illegal operations, though I couldn't begin to tell you how or why?

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

yes, but I'm not going to tell what I did
