Would
you die for your country? I've always been patriotic, but I've also always had an
undying will to live! In light of the new developments in terrorism and the fact that our
homeland has been directly affected by these acts....yes. If push came to shove and some
sort of ground troups suddenly invaded our turf? I'd do whatever I could to protect my
family first, then my country.

I love my country and I would probably be
willing to die for it for the right reasons. That being said, I'm very much against war.

If necessary.
Jane, 62

I like to think so. I am sure I would die
for my ideals.
Jane, 62
West Linn, OR

no, but I would for a family member

No. "Because of" maybe but not
"for."
Alias Irrelevante
Yes. If it were in defense of our civil
liberties.

No way. No chance. Even if they wanted me to
(which they don't - DADT).
etoile, 20
Washington, DC USA
I would fight...but if I knew that death was
inevitable, I wouldn't.
Jennifer, 19

I am really loath to the idea of
killing under any circumstance. Despite the recent events that have affected the US, I
would find it really difficult to kill or be killed for
the US. Then again, I have never really seen my way of life in danger enough to even
contemplate such activity.
Felicia, 35
Lowell, MA
USA
No. I'd die for my beliefs, and my beliefs
are not always the beliefs generally held by my country.
Johanna, 18
OK USA
no, I would not.
Dianne, 17
Ontario CANADA
Not in the joining-the-military sense.
Karen, 22
Marshalltown/Ames, IA USA
Probably not. I would possibly die for
ideals of my country, but only if I felt like my dying for them would make any possible
difference.
Angela, 18
Bella Vista, AR USA
If it meant protecting my family and
friends...I think I might.
Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA
As devoted as I am to my country, I
don't think I'd die for it.
Reba, 50+
Silver Spring, MD USA
Yup...not that I am looking foward to
it...but, if necessary, that would be my bag...
Sauron, 30
Mordor
Probably not, but hard to say.

Well, this is an interesting question. I
would die defending my family. I would die defending my home. I would die defending the
American shores. I would die to save humanity. I would not go to battle in the name of
money. I would not go to battle to defend another country deemed important in foreign
policy by our government. So, I suppose my answer would be I would die defending my
country. I would not die just to be a tool for my country.

Yup
Frodo

I dont think i would, but it seems i may
have no choice with all this crap going on.
Ry, 23

I honestly didn't know society is required
to provide anything to anyone. I thought the whole idea was get a job and provide for
yourself. Who knew?
Aaron, 22
VA USA
Before I
thought not. But right now there seems to be a strong reason to defend our country. The
attacks of Sept 11 was a direct threat, not some military operations overseas with obscure
enemy.
Janet, 44
E. Brunswick, NJ USA
I may not
be in the army, but in the end, yes I would die for my country. Of course, if I was going
to die to save my country for certain, of course I would! But if I knew hat I would not
make a difference in the outcome, I would stay home. It's all about knowing that
would happen when you were gone. Also, to whoever reads this, do drop off some thing at
the Vietnam war memorial. Thank You.
Derya
Which one? I'm a
dual citizen of the United States and New Zealand.
Jonathan, 19

If I had
to yes. I would prefer not to.
Celeste, 30
Colorado Springs, CO USA
That's a
very difficult question. It depends on the circumstances, what exactly I'm dying for, etc.
I mean, I value freedom and liberty, but I don't feel like my country provides these
things to everyone. There is still legal inequality, legal limits on speech (often under
the guise of protection from pornography, speech about safer sex, fetishes, homosexuality,
and birth control/abortion is not accessible to young people), legal limits on
relationships(non-normative sex is still criminalized in some states). Also, I imagine
that to die for my country I'd first have to be legally allowed to serve in the Armed
Forces. Currently, gays and lesbians are not permitted to serve, so I guess I'm precluded
from even having this option.
