If you had a choice between a long uneventful life, or a short glory filled life, which would you choose?

I got the idea for this question from the life of Achilles. According to his mother, Thetis, when he was born, he was offered the option of a long, uneventful life, or a short, glory filled life. Of course, he chose the glory filled life. As for myself, well, I think I concur with Achilles. After all, as anybody would tell you, my greatest fear is that nobody will know I existed. The only way I can be remembered, is by gettinng memorably things accomplished, in a short period of time. As James Dean (or was it Jimmy Dean, I don't remember), live fast, die, young, and leave a good looking corpse. Well, since I am going to be set on fire when I croak, I doubt if my corpse would be good looking.

Like, somebody once said, the best thing Rudolph Valentino did for his career, was die. People remember you if you die young (not that I advocating that). I suppose I just want to be remembered...

Evidently I chose a longish life filled with ignominious events.

A long, uneventful life with a few moments of glory.

Very interesting question. Honestly, I would have to choose the short, glory filled life. Gotta follow the quality over quantity mantra on this one.

A long uneventful one... it is the little things that count anyway, not glory and recognition.

A long uneventful life I think. Just because things are uneventful doesn't mean you would be unhappy.

Long and uneventful. However, I'd trade a couple of years for some really short lived amazing experience.

Probably a mix of the two- an avarage life span, with slightly less glory than most. But if I had yo choose, a long boring life sounds better in the long run.

Derya

Short and glory filled. Life is about living, not a long death.

I don't want boredom or glory. So I don't like those choices.

I'd take the short route. The glory isn't the thing, just the minimalization of boredom.

I would have preferred long, uneventful - but I've been blessed with neither of the two.

That would depend on what is considered uneventful. If eventful means fame and fourtune but I could still be with friends and family and live a good life I would certainly choose a long UNeventful life.If uneventful covers every facet of life (family, career, personal achievement etc...) then I would choose the short evenful life.

A short glory-filled life for sure!

Neither. I would like both. A long glory filled life - it's the only way to go!
