THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION
City of New York, October 3, 1789.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to
acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His
benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of
Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to "recommend to the People
of the United States a day of public thanks-giving and prayer to be observed by
acknowledging with grateful hearts the many single favors of Almighty God, especially by
affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety
and happiness."
Now therefore I do recommend and assign
Thursday the 26th. day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the
service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good
that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our
sincere and humble thanks, for His kind care and protection of the People of this country
previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the
favorable interpositions of His Providence, which we experienced in the course and
conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which
we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled
to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly
the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we
are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in
general for all the great and various favors which He hath been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most
humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and
beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in
public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and
punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly
being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully
executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as
have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord.
To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of
science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of
temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

For every day it's not Thanksgiving--though
this Thanksgiving actually wasn't too traumatic--for the wonderful people in my life, for
my health, for the beautiful untouched areas in the world, for kids, for thermostats, for
my Jeep, for having known my old Jeep, for my kitty. . .I could go on for hours, probably.

I'm thankful that I haven't
completely squandered my chances for realizing my dream of being a working person in the
entertainment industry. . .I'm thankful that I can
still fully, deeply, passionately enjoy a film or an album or a tv show. . .I'm thankful
that there are people in my life who love me and whom I love, for what I believe are the
right reasons. . .I'm thankful there still is hope that I will fall deeply in love again
and marry and have many children

Everything!! Not usually all at once, but
every now and then something happens that makes you stop and think, "Boy, I am really
thankful for that!" Hopefully on this day though, I can be thankful for EVERYTHING!

Hmm, first of all, my family. They're the
most important thing. Then there's friends because school is pure torture without them. A
house, clothes, food, and an education make up most of the rest of what I'm thankful for.

I am thankful for so many things
this year. A healthy beautiful son, finding me self
esteem again, realizing what direction I want to take in my life, and finding a guy who
treats me like the princess I am. All of these things I am thankful for.

Fond memories mostly. I try to create more
each and every day...sometimes it can be a challenge but when all is said and done in this
life, I believe that's really all that one has left to him/herself before making their
grand exit. Treasure them.

I am thankful for the small things in life
that our gracious God gives to me. I am thankful for food in my stomach, a bed to sleep
in, my car, warm clothing, my iMac, my Mother, my StepFather, my Sister, my Grandmother,
my church, and the few friends I have. I am thankful for my job, my television, my couch,
my heater, and the fact that if I lose all my possessions I can still go back home &
live with my Mother.

There's not enough room on this page to list
all the things I'm thankful for so I'll just mention the ONE thing I'm most thankful
for - my husband. When he married me I had a lot of faults but by never saying a word,
just loving and supporting me and acting as if the faults weren't there, I was able to rid
myself of most of them. (Unfortunately, one of the faults I couldn't get rid of entirely
is my terrible temper. I still lose it occasionally and for some reason, I always take it
out on Bill.) I've developed some disabilities lately but with Bill's help I haven't had
to give up my love for the outdoors. When I want to go out birdwatching for instance, Bill
goes with me and pushes and pulls me over the rough spots, holding on to me so I won't
fall. He does everything but carry me, and I'm sure when - and if - that ever becomes necessary, he'll do that, too. I
love Bill and I love what I am when I'm with him.
