Would
you rather have a smart liar or a stupid honest guy lead your country?Does it really matter?
Man, I just think Gore should get in.
Jaden, 21

I've got to say a stupid honest guy. He may
not be a genius, but he can hire smarter people to help him make the right choices.

I assume that we are picking a
president in 2000? Gore's lies, by and large, are
stupid inaccuracies. Bush, the "stupid honest guy" of your question--whether
from ignorance or mendacity--has been telling whoppers. Had it not been for the
possibility of electing a man proclaimed and proven to be unfriendly to the
environment and a supporter of global warming, I'd have voted for Nader.
Jill, 59

which one's gore?

Depends on what the other countries have
leading them. If we could all have stupid honest guys, I'd be happy with that.

um... how about a smart, honest guy!

A stupid honest guy

i would choose a smart person over a stupid
person any day.
Steve, 29
Lake Worth, FL USA
definatly a stupid honest guy. there are so
many advisors that could help him get though the stuff that he needed to be intelegent on.
but if he's got the smarts and he lies and he's scaming all the time...well we've seen how
that can go. definatly a stupid honest guy.
Kiki, 22
Eureka, IL

What if the stupid honest guy is really a smart liar in
disguise? If pressed, I guess I would value honesty over intelligence. At least then
I am sure where things stand. Yet, I am beginning to doubt whether or not a truly
honest person could ever be made the leader of a modern nation.
Felicia, 34
Lowell, MA
USA
a smart liar. As long as he knows what he's
doing...
Stephanie, 24
TX USA
a smart liar hands down. Lack of
intelligence is not a good quality in a leader.
Kate, 19
Bellingham, WA USA
stupid honest guy... i think that would get
us in less trouble than someone lying
Brooke, 16
Memphis, TN

Stupid honest guy... who wants a President
who's gonna lie?
Jeremy, 13
Highlands Ranch, CO USA
I'll take the smart liar every
single time.
Laura, 35
Lowell, MA

Probably a smart liar. He'd probably be more
popular if he tells the masses what they want to hear, because no one would want to hear
the truth that the honest guy would tell you.
Shanna, 15

I'd rather have a smart, honest president.
If I were forced to choose, I should probably reluctantly lean toward the candidate with
Machiavellian characteristics.
Jane, 60
West Linn, OR

Stupid honest guys don't go far as
politicians, therefore we could never elect one as President.
Jami, 27
Lowell, MA

honesty in all things
Anthony, 25

I voted for Nader. .don't blame me.
. .If the democrat was the stupid honest guy though, I'd rather see him win. . But, as it
is/was, Gore(presumably the "smart liar") is
the democrat, so I'd rather see him running the country. . but I can live with Bush. .. he
seems like a much more likable guy to me. . funnier and more real somehow. . .
mothmc, 36

Gee...I wonder what this question is
about...Do I have to pick just one? Based on the question alone and nothing else I'd
associate with it I'd go with the smart liar.
Alias Irrelevante
Since all politicians lie, probably a smart
guy. Although, to me, the leader must possess Kurt Angle's (WWF champion, former US
wrestling gold meldalist) 3 Is: intelligence, integrity, and intensity.
Mick, 30

honest guy = oxymoron
Karen, 21
Marshelltown/Ames, IA USA
Let's see, I guess Gore is the smart liar
and Bush is the stupid honest guy. If those are the choices, I'd rather move to
Canada.
Susan, 31
Chicago, IL

A stupid honest guy, at least he has
peopole to help lead him in the right direction.
Sarah J.
Jones, MO USA
I would want a smart intelligent honest guy
run the country and watch out for the people and not be for himself and especially not be
corrupt. Our for fathers died for our freedom and our constitutional rights. I don't want
someone to try to take away those rights after so many died for our

Hm. How about a smart, honest guy who only
lies when he lapses into temporary bouts of stupidity? Oh. Never mind. We've already had a
few of those.
Fisch, 45

Dumb and honest. A liar would sell us all
out and be able to keep a grin on his face the whole time (ahem, Clinton)
Maggie, 20

Like everyone else, I would rather have a
stupid, honest guy in the White House. But I'm afraid that if we did, the powers that be
and then the American people would eat him alive. We're so used to being lied to that the
truth would hurt...and I don't really think the majority of Americans want

If we took this question hypothetically, I'd
pick the "stupid honest guy," but if we took this question to mean Gore=smart
liar and Bush=stupid honest guy, then I have to quibble a bit. First of all, Gore can't be
too smart if he can't remember who really invented the internet or when he was born and
when strike songs were written, and Bush can't be too dumb if he could earn an MBA.

Two very bad choices....I hope neither one
leads my country!
Tracy, 24

Probably
a smart liar. A leader has to be smart enough to know the issues that a country must face
and how to work on those issues. Honesty is a great attribute, but to lead a country, one
must have intelligence to lead.
