What is the most shocking crime which has ever occurred in your town or city?

How do you measure shock? Lowell is a city, cities have city problems. A few years ago we were mentioned in the USA Today for going an entire year WITHOUT a homicide. If I could remember the date I'd provide it but believe me it is a true story.

Alias Irrelevante

A couple of years ago in Lowell, a military guy who had a girlfriend and two kids on the side was afraid that his wife would find out about his extra curricular activities. He killed the girlfriend and his two kids. One of the kids was found stuffed in a duffle bag in his military foot locker.

How could anyone lack such moral and intellectual properties to think that the best way to solve such a personal entaglement is murder?

In my hometown of Seabrook, somebody woke up dead in his car 5 blocks from my home, also within sight of my elementary school. He was parked outside his house on the street, with a bullet in his head, and there were never any suspects. No one really knew him.

Crimes as bad, possibly worse, have happened in Bowie, but they haven't shocked me.

Someone decided to install big awkward hideous black framed windows desecrating a historic mill building in Lowell, MA. The 1970s were cruel years in architecture, destroying hundreds of years of concept and design.   Similar to Fusion Jazz or the embarrassing and pathetic design of the new American $10 & $20 bill. Sadly, crimes against art are the most opinionated and deniable.

As for my home town, NYC, far too many each year to try to recall any particulars. But where I currently live, about a year ago they made new road signs with even bigger lettering that read "CAUTION: ROAD WORK AHEAD" ... then when you drive about a quarter of a mile on, there are even BIGGER groups of men sitting on the curb drinking Snapple and shooting the breeze. Why couldn't they leave well enough alone. I tell you it's an atrocity!

The most shocking crime was in my old house, long after I moved out (in the east). A little girl was abducted on memorial weekend 1986. Many years later, they caught the sicko, who was already in jail for killing someone else. Kudos to the cops for their relentless dedication to solve the case.

In the last few months in the area covered by my local newspapers there have been three Daddies who have battered their infant children to death.I find crimes against the helpless innocent shocking and feel that baby killers should be exterminated. If mercy is required, they could be given the means with which to commit suicide.

A young man was beat to death by other young men. They used hammers, shovels, baseball bats. The victim did not know the men who killed him.

..I live in New York City. Y'all probably know the answer to that already. (Plus, I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether the Kitty Genovese incident or the Son of Sam incident is more shocking.)

Well, Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband's penis about 20 minutes south of where I live. I'm not sure about anything really shocking; the most recent crime I can think of was an apparent murder. The woman's body was found naked in the alley behind the building where I work, but a few days later we found out that her boyfriend (from the same town as Lorena Bobbitt) had killed her and then come into the city to find a convenient place to dump the body - and he picked the spot right behind my building.  I still bought a pepper spray keychain, though, because even though it  wasn't a random killing it made me realize that maybe the area I work in

I live in a fairly small town. So, when a man walked infront of our pizza hut with a shotgun in his hand and went to rob the bank, and then stole a car, wrecked and died it was rather strange.

I don't know the details, but I guess a couple decades ago there was a big murder conspiracy type of thing, something crazy like a father killing his wife or something, and it's been featured in Yankee magazine. It's sad, but true that a few years ago the teachers were proud of our town for this fact.

In our county was the disappearance of Timothy Wilkins (? not sure of last name). He was at the carnival with his mother and she said he was abducted. No trace of the boy was found. A psychic said she saw his remains in a large field. About two years later his ninja turtle sneaker was found and then his decomposed body was found. The mother has always been the suspect but there was never enough evidence to indite her. The boy was the same age as my son when he disappeared, about 5 or 6. My son is now 14. It's just disturbing to think this child never had a chance to grow up and live a life.
