How did you spend your Memorial Day weekend?

Saturday I went to two cemeteries with my family to plant flowers, then had lunch afterwards with them. Sunday I shopped at three stores and bought groceries at the supermarket. Monday I watched the local Memorial Day parade, did a lot of cooking, and took a couple of dinners to my father-in-law. I'm taking Tuesday as a vacation day, but I'm spending it with an electrician who's going to put new lights in my kitchen and at the airport picking up my daughter.

Went north to way upstate NY (near Canada and Lake Placid) to visit my mom and aunt. Helped clean out the camp which had been ransacked by a descructive racoon during the winter months and helped save a few ducklings of the Wood Duck variety as they fell from their tree next and started to make it across a busy highway to follow their mother to the River. Spend a beautiful, if long and watery car ride, through the Adirondacks and Berkshires as I wound my way home. Nice weekend over all.

A bit soggy, but was good. Thursday night we went into New Hope, PA to the Triumph Brew Pub and saw the Sonny Kenn Band. Unbelievable guitar player. What a performer!!! I took off work on Friday. Went to see David Bromberg down in Princeton, NJ. Haven't seen him in 20 years. Garland
Jefferies open for him It was a great show. Saturday my sister was down from Lowell, MA. So
her, my husband, other sister and her son went out to a blues bar and saw a band, Matt O"Ree. Pretty good technically, he needs to have a bit more soul. I had a B-b-Q on Sunday. About 30 people were over. Myself and my four siblings were there. Which is probably the first time all 5 of us were together in 2-3 years. So that was nice. Had a bunch of family and friends. So we put up a tent and grilled under it and hung out in the house. When it wasn't raining, we went out side for a bit. Monday, went with my siblings to play "Wake the Dead" and visit my parents' graves at the cemetery. Saw our old neighbors there. (there are still living). Went to the diner for pork roll, egg and cheese on a hard roll with coffee. Need to go back to work on

I didn't do too much in ways of celebrating. Saturday I took my son to the birthday party of my friend's little girl. Saturday night I took him to PNC Park to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Cardinals. They had a spectacular fireworks display after the game. Sunday and Monday I spent
working in my yard...mowed the entire yard (Wew!)...pruned the lilacs, forsythias, rose bushes,
cherry trees and apple trees, hauled all my prunings into the "burn pile"...hmmm...bought a bunch of smoke bombs and watched as my son and his friend set them off...and just a bit ago I made a nice steak dinner! After I'm done on the computer, I'm going to take my kid and two dogs and go out for a twilight stroll through the fields.

Originally we were going to North Carolina to visit my brother and his wife and baby, but sick in-laws kind of affected those plans. I had Friday off too and I had a doctor's appointment - fun, fun. I
watched my husband umpire a high school baseball game on Saturday. On Sunday, we planted cucumbers, squash and tomatoes (along with our onions, beans and corn), mowed the lawn, cleaned house and collapsed. Today, he had to work and I took off with a good friend and we shopped, talked, ate, talked, drove, talked and talked. Oh, and we attended a Memorial Day
celebration at Strasburg High School that was very touching. (She is a member of the county school board).

Mainly with my family (Family reunion on Saturday, parent's for Dinner Sunday). I feel a bit bad that we didn't spend much of it with my wife's family, but she didn't bring it up. I should mention it to her and see if she wants to go see them.

It was raining (it has rained so much here that I'm beginning to grow webbing between my toes) so I stayed in and did some scrapbboking. That evening I watched Willie Nelson's 70th birthday celebration on TV. (When I turn 70, I hope I'm as cool as he is.)

With a houseful of kids. Saturday was a family reunion in a park. Cold and windy. Sunday we smoked a salmon and chicken and most of the kids came to eat. One son, his wife and two sons and our daughter and her baby boy stayed for the weekend. It was great!
