What is your
typical commute to work, school, daily gig like?My commute takes about 35 minutes.
I leave my house and drive down the hill, looking over the Willamette Valley, follow the
river north for a couple of miles through the town of Lake Oswego, then go up a tree-lined
road adjoining a state park. That's the pretty part. I then go through a semi-residential
neighborhood and end up with about five miles through a commercial area, which fortunately
is not too heavily travelled so early in the morning.

I drive in to Detroit from a western
suburb. Its about 15 to 20 mile drive but usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour in the
morning depending on how many trucks are on the road and how stupid people are being that day. I drive along 96 which thankfully
doesn't have many accidents (although I just jinxed myself). Coming home usually takes 30
to 45 minutes. Its weird though how leaving 10 minutes later can make the drive 25 minutes
longer. I like my commute, I don't race in or home, I just take my time and listen to the
radio. My dream commute is from the bed to my office/craft room. Maybe someday.

As a retired housewife living in a rural
area, my "commuting" is limited to local errands over narrow, twisting country
roads. Suicidal deer are a perpetual hazard.

I have recently changed careers. I
want to go to grad school to get a Master in Education
and be a teacher. I will be starting a new job on Aug. 1 as a recuiter for a private high
school. Right now I am not working, and LOVING it! My husband is in charge of
"bringing home the bacon" for the next couple months, while I am thoroughly
enjoying myself! So I have no "typical commute" at the moment. My new commute to
the high school will be a 5 minute drive on neighborhood streets! It will be the best
commute I have ever had!

I have
two different commutes. On a long day, I get up and am out of the hosue by 7:15am to walk
2 blocks to the subway station. I take a 25 minute ride from the Somerville, MA
Davis T stop to the Boston, MA Charles / MGH stop. I then walk about 5 blocks to an office
near government center. About 2 1/2 hours later I reverse the trip, grab a bite to eat at
my house, and get in my car by 12:15pm to drive 30 miles north to Lowell, MA where my main
gig is. Sometimes I take route 93 to route 495 and sometimes I take route 2 to route 95 to
route 3 (depends on the time of day and traffic). I usually to get back to my house until
about 9:30 or 10:00 at night.

Somerville, MA
When I'm
working in town, I drop my husband off at school; he's gone back to finish his
undergraduate degree. Then most days I go to the gym. After I'm done at the gym, I go to
the coffee shop and pick up a cup of coffee and then I go to my office. If I'm on
the road, I could drive just about anywhere in eastern New England.

Lowell, MA
No real commute anymore since I'm
gainfully unemployed. Basically I wake up, brush my
teeth, stumble to the computer, check my mail, then (not) work on my thesis. A month and a
half left. Dear god pray for me?

There are trees and little critters
and streets and cars on the first part of my walk. Then
there are construction zones, and then there's campus. Of course, my commute varies this
summer. Once it involved planes to Ireland and back, and next it will involve a three-hour
drive each way. . .

Really peaceful. I drive past the
home of a major sports celebrity so I'm still hoping
for a glimpse! No highway driving which is good!
Lindsay, 21
Harrisonburg, VA
Usually I go down to the bus stop which
isn't far from my house and catch the bus to school, which is about half a mile from where
I live
Shanna

Non-existant at the moment. Previous job
took about 10 min to, 30 from. Next will take prolly an hr both ways if not more
Firelady, 22

I climb into my step-dad's Jeep, drive for
about 15 minutes, and get out of the car and wait until school starts
Jeremy, 13
Highlands Ranch, CO
Right now I don't have school, and I'm
looking for a job. So from day to day, it's quite different. I don't have much of a
schedule, really. The only organized part of my day is that I usually go online around 9pm
in the evening.
Aurora, 17
Montreal, Quebec CANADA
Disarmingly easy. If it were more
than a 2 minute bus ride, and that long again a walk, I would feel better about skipping
class as often as I do.
Anthony, 25
Baton Rouge, LA
I leave my house and walk along a twisting
brick road and cross an enchanted park filled with laughing children, song birds, golden
sun beams, and swaying trees with misty flower beds of daffodil and lilac gathering
along the silvery grass carpet. I work next door to where I live and have to cross
this park everyday.

my car
Angela, 16
Bella Vista, AK
Depends where I'm coming from. From my place
it's two turns and 1 mile with very little traffic. From my girlfriends its about 3 turns,
12 miles and a bit of road construction. 2 minutes versus 20-30.

It's like a long, boring walk. Oh, wait, it
IS a long, boring walk.

I leave
for work around 8am and drive 25 minutes up the Garden State Parkway (NJ). Then I leave
work around 4pm and drive home. I'm home most days by 4:30pm, but it varies day to day.
Then I just try to RELAX..."try" being the operative word!!!!
Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ
I walk about two miles to work and take the
bus or cab to my other job . . .

If I am
not working from home, I get up at 6:00 am help get my kids and myself ready for
school/work. Breakfast, pack lunches etc. I either get a ride to NEw Brunswick from my
brother-in-law, he drops me off at the train station, I take the Train to NEwark, NJ and
then either take the city subway or walk to my office. Other times I drive into Newark,
but the trip and traffic gets on my
nerves. I'm afraid I am not a very patient driver
