Do you do any volunteer work?

I apologize if this is a duplicate answer. My email program hiccupped the first time I hit send and I
don't know if the answer went through. I don't do much volunteer work right now. I'm a lector and a Eucharistic minister at church but that's it. Last year I was co-editor of the newsletter for a
club I belonged to, and I was very relieved when my term ended. In the past I was a Girl Scount leader for about four years and I also served on the board of the Rochester Hills Little League for a few years.

I currently edit the AAUW newsletter and serve on the Outreach Committee of my church (which really means I am developing its website). After hearing a talk on the work of the Mercy Corps in Afghanistan, I have just filled out an application to volunteer in their Portland headquarters. In July, I will go on the board of my college alumnae/i association. My prior volunteer experience has included serving on the board of several nonprofit agencies, staffing a telephone crisis line, acting as a docent at an historic house, and a good many years with parent-teacher organizations.

I believe it is important to give back to your community in any way you can. I am on the board of directors of our local American Red Cross. I am on the foundation board of our community hospital. I volunteer at the animal shelter on Saturday mornings. I am a Rotarian and through that organization have helped shape my community. I also am a member of the Downtown Enhancement Committee which comes up with events to promote our downtown area to keep it lively and interesting. I was raised in a very civic and politically-minded family and so being a volunteer in my community seems natural.

I'm secretary of my college class. My husband is legal guardian for two mentally ill family members. He has the title and I do the work. Spring and fall, I trundle along the rural road where I live, picking up garbage.

I don't do any right now, since I'm recovering from surgery..but in the past I've volunteered on river clean up programs, bird migration charting, reforestation programs...and when I was a teenager, I used to be a volunteer counselor at a day camp for mentally handicapped children.

I did in the past. I was a Literacy Volunteer for two years and tutored English as a Second Language; I found this most rewarding! Was tired of people coming here to live and not learning the language... so I decided I'd do my part to change at least some of that if I could. Met some very cool people. I also volunteered at a large local senior center.
