What
do you think of the temporary memorial at "Ground Zero"?I haven't even seen
it!

We come from a young country and are very
anxious to punctuate our short history with public relics. The memorial inconveniences me
not at all. On the other hand, had I been running the show I would have waited until the
wreckage of the Twin Towers had been completely cleared and the remains of all victims had
been recovered.

I think it is a good idea. People need a
place to go and view and reflect. It's kinda of like why we have a wake - so people can
really take in the reality that it happened. To see for themselves.

I don't know. Every time I hear "Ground
Zero" that Weird Al song starts running through my head.

It's understandable. It's only human
nature to mourn in this way. I must say I would like to see it myself, to pay my respects.
It's not such a bad thing. I think it helps people
heal!
Tracy, 24

I'd like to be looking at it from where I
used to live in NYC.

I like the simplicity of it. Have to say,
that I am pretty numb / detached / void of much feeling about the September 11th
aftermath. I can't tell if its disinterest or avoidance.

Right now isn't the whole thing a memorial?
Do you really need a plaque?
Keri-Jade, 21

I'm not quite sure how to answer this
question. What do I think of it? It's a memorial to thousands of lost lives. Am I supposed
to think, in some way, that it's a bad idea to have a memorial for those lost? That's
ridiculous. Do I think it should remain? Of course, a memorial of some sort should be
there.

I think it's nice, but would have
been more appropriate at the one-year anniversary. All of these one-month, two-month,
six-month, etc. rememberances detract from it.

I am very happy they put it up- and I think
that the site of the World Trade Center should remain a memorial. It would be an insult to
all of those we lost to just plow it over and begin again. Thousands of people died there.
Thousands will never be recovered and put to rest properly. The area needs to be treated
with reverence. Build a park- make it a park full of places where people can be silent and
reflect on exactly what happened in that spot on September 11th. Put up a permanent
memorial- something with the faces of those who died on September 11th incorporated into
it so it isn't easy to let complacency replace the pain and loss we felt over the lives
that were taken that day. Leave that huge chunk of Manhattan exposed to the world as a
reminder of how evil evil can be, but also how we need to find a peaceful resolution to
all of this anger and aggression.

I think it's a nice touch, but clearly not
enough of a memorial for those whose loved ones lost their lives there. I realize it's
temporary...and it is symbolic of what the Towers represented...but the parallel beams
make more of a presence than the Sphere. They literally fill that awful skyline gap which
is a harsh and constant reminder to those who have to view it daily.

I have not seen it. I live 40 minutes from
NYC and havent even been to Ground Zero once. I should go, it seems like it would be a
good thing to do.

Not bad, although it reminds me of the
lights over the skyline of Upland, Indiana.

I think it's touching. It's a great reminder
of what happened.
