do you know about your neighbors?I know they're psychos about their yards. The ones on our right are
constantly adding little fences, landscaping, or making it more cutesy looking. The ones
on the left keep making decks and stair railings. Umm. The ones on the left have two
little girls. The ones on the right have a 20-something married daughter with a kid.
That's about it. Their names are Tom,
Carol, Jim, and Jenny.
The real question, is what do my neighbors know about me....or think they know about me...
Basically, I know that they're annoying.
I'm not good friends with my neighbors but I do know them well enough to carry on a short conversation every now and then. I live in an expensive apartment complex (it wasn't when we moved here) and we share mutual concerns about the constantly increasing rent. Minnie, the retired lady next door, was the first person to greet us when we moved in. Trish, a single Mom, and her 13 year-old son, Ryan, live diagonally from us. Ryan has MD and the poor kid spends about half the time in the hospital. When he's in the hospital, Trish stays with him and her mother comes over everyday to feed and take care of Trish's Blue and Green macaw, umbrella cockatoo, goffin (sp.?), and parakeet, so we've gotten to be friends with her, too. All three of us agree that when our lease is up, we're going to move.
One of them's a friend of Deb's. One of them went to the Grand Canyon with her pregnant sister over spring break. Most of them want the car that doesn't belong to anybody out of our lot. Some of them are loud. Some have rude visitors who honk instead of coming to the door, no matter what time it is. That's about it.
Absolutely nothing. We moved to a quite secluded apartment last November and have had no interaction with the neighbors at all.
Hmm... at my last house, we were in a rental neighborhood, and I knew absolutely nothing about any of my neighbors except for one. I just moved into a new neighborhood and haven't had the chance to talk to anyone yet...
Not much. I live in a rather anonymous townhouse complex. Actually far less than I knew my neighbors in supposedly aloof New York City.
Nothing right now. The neighbors before them had a meth lab.
I live in a mobile home park and am the manager, so sometimes I know more than I want to.
I live with my girlfriend right between her grandparents and her aunt. I know too much.
The neighbors to the right are Cambodian and speak very little English. Just the same they are very friendly. Their adult son lives with them. He's doing graduate work. Their daughter is married and has two young girls. They have cook outs in the back yard at least twice a month during the nice weather.
The neighbors behind us are friends. They have two young sons who are extremely bright and keep us entertained with the amazing things they say and do. She is a musician, teaches lessons at home and in Cambridge. He's a mechanic at the post office.
The neighbor to the left is retired. He's a huge fan of the Patriots. He once told me that he has a tv in every room. He and I chat over the fence frequently. He rakes his yard just about every day. I keep telling him to come and do my yard but he just laughs at me.
The neighbor across the street is an older single woman who likes to garden. I don't know too much about her, but we do talk about our gardens fairly often.
On the opposite side of the road, I know that they're all very wealthy amd elitist. My next door neighbours own about 8 cats and are even wealthier. We don't speak much, but occasionally my Amazon packages are left with them. None of them have any kids living at home.
I live in a newly developed artist
loft space so I know a bit about the some of the people
in the building:
i know that they are nudists nad believe in sacrificing anything to bring about the end of the world, does that count?
I know a little but enough about my neighbores not to be afraid of them. I live in an apt complex so we are a little closer than average neighbors. WE have to respect other more because the floors and walls are so thin. We have to decorate outside according to what the other will find presentable as well. But my neighbors are great.
Not a great deal. I only moved to this area a year ago, and haven't really met anyone extending further than right next door. But I enjoy my privacy and respect the privacy of others as well. I like to feel that I could go to them in an emergency and vice versa...but I don't like to become too chummy.
We always smile and nod when we pass. Occasional we chat. I live in a rural area and can count on most of them during an emergency.
The neighbors to the right have four boys and three dogs. I can't even imagine the chaos in that house! They are nice people though and my son gets all sorts of clothes from them. I have boxes and boxes of clothes from that house! The neighbors to the left are new on our street. I know nothing about them except the guy is a skydiving instructor and is sort of cute.
I know that the neighbors on my left have their 7-year-old granddaughter living with them. They're pretty nice. The neighbor on my right is a well-known photographer. She uses her garage as her studio. I've never really talked to her.
more than i want to....
I don't really know my next door neighbors too well. The neighbors on one side are an elderly couple and on the other side is a young couple who have a baby boy. As for the rest of the neighborhood, I only know their names, thats about it.
Diamond, OH USA They have a gabillion dogs, illegally rent out a room for $700, are bad drivers and are super assholes. On the other side is a girl my age who just had her fourth child. They also have a very large dog. Jaden, 21
Brampton, Ontario CANADA Not too much yet since I just moved here, but I'll tell you one thing...one set of neighbors have a few dogs and don't take very good care of them! They are outside all the time no matter the weather, they howl and whine into the wee hours of the night...or day, and they just don't look "taken care of". I want to call someone, but then I have to deal with neighbors who probably figured out it was us who called! Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA Nothing actually. Except that they have a really messed up dog. Angela, 16
Aiken, SC USA I know that they live and breathe and eat and will die, some of them sooner than later. . . mothmc, 36
Los Angeles, CA USA I only have two neighbors. I never see or talk to one of them. The other I know all about their family, children and grandchildren. We interact a bit. But not as much as we used to. I was home during the day when my children where small and talked with them much more than we do now. Janet, 42
