What are you especially glad your parents taught you?

I'm indebted to my parents for my intellectual inclinations. Also, I'm fortunate that the common courtesies automatically come to my lips when required by social situations.

I don't know that it's something they taught me, but I love the fact that they are affectionate and still in love after 33 years of marriage. So many divorces these days and it's nice to know that my parents are going to make it and it lets me feel comfortable in the fact that I looked for someone that I can last with!

Tracy, 24

In an era when it was uncommon, my parents taught me that I could do whatever I was capable of doing, not just what "girls do."

To always wear my seat belt. I don't know where I'd be if I hadn't been wearing it when I got rear ended by a hit and run driver.

Good manners, a love of learning, and a desire to treat others well.   Oh and they let me become who I was meant to be.

My dad has taught me to take things in stride, which is something that I need on a daily basis.  My mom has taught me to face situations with an open mind and positive attitude, and that things are seldom as bad as they might seem.

Where should I begin? Everything I am I learned from my parents. To try to do the right thing, even if it's hard, to respect others, and most important, how to be a good parent myself.

My parents taught me many things... too many to count. But the thing I'm most glad they taught me was how to be a good parent.

When I think back on the things my parents 'taught' me (by example), it's a miracle I turned out as good as I did. However, one thing I can remember that my mother taught me that has served me well is a respect and admiration for African-Americans.

How to save money, restrict myself from borrowing, and that there are lessons to be learned from just about every experience we go through.

Fisch, 47

My mother taught me the value of hard work...my father taught me the art of having fun! A pretty good balance between the two, I'd say.

Tam

I'm glad that they taught me to be myself, and to not let other people walk all over me, and to be independent. They've taught me to be mentally strong - with that comes my stubbornness, but I guess that's part of the package. My parents taught me never to judge, to be accepting and  open minded, and to be forgiving.

Hikaru, 19

That the only person you can always count on is yourself. That you should always be willing to go out of your way to help someone if it's possible. To be the best possible person I can be.

This is sort of lame, but my mom told to rise above and beyond, and it's served me well. Also, righty tighty, left loosey.
