Do you usually initiate friendships or wait to be approached?

I probably have a tendancy to wait to be approached. I am a friendly person by nature, but true friendships I can count on two hands.

Cindy, 41

It's usually about 50-50. Some days I feel shy and some I don't. Since I think friendships are important to your health and well-being, I usually force myself to approach people.

Cathie, 53

It's usually more of a mutual thing.

Stephanie, 27
TX USA

I wait to be approached most of the time.

Aly, 17

I have to say I am for the most part so clueless about some social interactions that the people in my life seem to just happen into it.

Felicia, 37
Lowell, MA USA

I gotta do it myself. No one appraoches you if you're not talking.

A-Dog, 20

I usually wait to be approached.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

About fifty/fifty, but I always work at maintaining friendships.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

I believe I have initiated several friendships in my lifetime. I'm usually the most talkative in a group of people and never fail to start up conversation... if I get a sense that there's more than just an aquaintance thing going on, I'll usually offer to follow it up with another sort of get-together. I used to be more frivolous in making people-choices... but I find that my more recent friendships seem to be more lasting.

Fisch, 47

Like friendship itself, starting a friendship requires mutual effort.

Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA

It seems to go both ways.

Laura, 38
Lowell, MA USA

A good mix of both, I think.

Cristin, 25
Frisco, TX USA

Hmmm...I suppose a little of both, depending on how social I am feeling.

Tam

It depends on my mood

Melodi, 19
