Have you ever been told by your supervisor to do something that you considered
morally or unethically wrong? What about dishonest?
Never. But then
I wasn't in the work force very long.

During my two weeks
as a painter, they made us dump gallons of paint waste in people's lawns.
I checked with the boss about this. "Isn't this illegal? What if
the owners see me doing this?" His reply, "Well you're not supposed
to let them see you, but just tell them it's just a little paint. It won't
hurt anything. And just make sure you don't let the city see you doing
this." What an asshole.

I once had a supervisor
(in fact, the owner of the company) who often did things I considered
unethical, but he was always careful to stay within the strict limits
of the law. Only once did he ask me to participate in something I considered
unethical and it was sufficiently a gray area that I
complied.

No, not that I
can think of.
Tam
Sort of. And as
much as my life is generally an open book, I choose to gently skip to
the next chapter on this one.

I don't know whether
this fits any of these categories or not. I guess when I submitted the
question I should have added "unfair". In my section at work,
we have a mentally retarded guy who works in the file room and this guy
is crazy about cats and dogs, kittens and puppies. His walls are full
of pictures that co-workers have given him of their pets. He comes over
to my desk a lot to talk about my pets and he noticed that I have photos
of animals as screensavers on my computer, photos I got from Websavers.
I told him that he could see kittens and puppies on his computer, too,
simply by signing up for Webshots. So I went over to his computer a few
months ago and showed him how to work Webshots and loaded some dog and
cat pictures for him. Yesterday, he told me he had found that Webshots
also has a category called Beautiful Women. I told my supervisor what
he said as I was afraid he would put them on his computer and someone
would object. (we have a lot of 'objectional' people in our section. haha)
She made me go to his computer and delete
all his photos, every one of which was of kittens and puppies. Everytime
I deleted one, I apologized to Derek for what I had to do and I had tears
in my eyes because just looking at these pictures made Derek so happy.
I think this was unfair...unfair...unfair.

Yes. When the school
I used to work at (for boys in state custody) was bought out they switched
us over to a less effective/more dangerous restraint technique. I was
also told to lie to the kids and put a decent PR spin on a lot of rule
changes after we were told there wouldn't be

Irrelevante
Yep.

Interesting question,
fortunately I can say no.

Never.

Nope- And I don't
think I would do it anyway. There is always a supervisor to a supervisor.
If I feel it is wrong, I can always go higher up.

No.

Sorta,
but I usually don't have a large problem with those sort of things. I
mean...well, sorry.

Yes,
and I didn't do it. He did it himself. He was subsequently caught and
fired.

My
bosses tend to be over zealous about our billable hours at work. I tell
then I can not overcharge our clients.
