What is your Independence Day Celebration?

This year any celebrations will be very subdued. One of the advantages of age is that I can look back and remember Independence Day celebrations that were exceedingly unpleasant. Subdued is to be preferred.-----Original

I am going to a bbq at my sister's house with some of her friends and our family on Sunday. Then, I am going to pack for my trip and work on my house on the 4th.

hang out, eat some BBQ, and watch a few fireworks.

I don't have a particular celebration. Although I did catch the Declaration of Independence read on the National Public Radio. It moved me to tears.

You mean this year?  I ate hamburgers, hot dogs, and pasta salad with my mom and dad, read Ellen Terry's memoirs, took a 2 hour nap, and am currently writing chapter three of my thesis. I don't feel very independent at all. But hey, I'm writing about women's independence in Victorian England... does that count?

Every year I revolt against an oppressive government. Using a surprising capacity for gurilla warfare, I am able to circumvent their mindless lockstep forces and drive them, ears boxed, from our newly free shores.  Tell King Bill and his bonnie Prince Al that America is free and they can take their corrupt bipartisan politics back to what ever hellish country they come from or their blood will feed the flowers up and down the great Mississippi!

And then I take a shower, listen to some hip-hop, light a smoke, and  go to work.

Viva la revelution

Of late, it's going to the celebration my mom helps out with. This year I'll go and meet my friend on the bridge there. . .

And then there'll be more fireworks...

We don't celebrate Independence Day here for fairly obvious reasons, so I'll probably just go to school as usual. Unless it's on a weekend. I don't even know the date.

We always do a really big family barbeque and then go up to my uncle's to watch the fireworks.

Actually, nothing... My family was going to buy fireworks, but the fire danger has been pretty high and I think they're illegal in my county.

I'm probably going to hang out with a few friends and watch fireworks. That's about it.

We will be going to a neighborhood party, with a children's parade, a barbecue and games. It is supposed to draw about two hundred  people at lunch time. Then in the evening, we will watch the fireworks.

I only have one tradition for the 4th of July: I go to the Taste of Chicago!  Taste of Chicago is a huge festival in Grant Park with zillions of restaurant booths, concerts etc. I only go one day out of the 12-day celebration because it is always so hot and crowded. It's always very fun though...I eat a lot and drink a lot....and it requires many days of recuperation

Nothing too special...no big picnics or family gatherings. I'm always at the shore with friends and sometimes family for the weekend. As long as I get to see some fireworks, I'm happy!!

Tracy, 24

NJ

My fireworks celebration included dinner with my family and fireworks at the local state park.

Since we don't celebrate Independance Day in the UK (well English people don't) I will be going to work as normal. But HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY to all Americans.

It's on the first, and it's for Canada.

I don't have a regular one. I'm answering this late and this year I spent the 3rd and 4th between southern Vermont and the Mohawk Trail (the western part of route 2 in Mass) river hiking, skinny dipping and small town touristing with my girlfriend.
