Having
personal goals (whatever they may be) and working to attain them. Also,
never letting the goal getting in the way of being a good person and treating
others decently. It is also not about what you have or what you do, but
how you feel about what you have and what you do.

Well, I am
probably the worst person to answer this question. After all, working
6 + years doing brain-dead stuff (filing), I do not think that makes me
qualified to speak of a winner...but I digress.
What I think the qualities of a winner are:
a) Working hard
b) Working in a job you love...so you look forward to going to work
c) Being in a success in said job.
d) Making a lot of money
e) Have a succesful family of his/her own
The easiest example is my Legendary Brother...yo, dawg has got it going
on...and that is the 411... He is extremely successful in his chosen field.
He has already traveled around most of the world. He live, with his wife,
in a mansion that would impress Bill Gates. He has all of the latest toys...he
races a Formula V car as a expensive hobby...Dawg has it going on...and
that is the 411.

Blue ribbons? Gold medals? Self respect? The question is a little vague.

A
winner is a person (or, in some cases, a thing) who (or that) wins. Examples:
I win a Nobel Prize for literature. My husband wins a Husband of the Year
award. My friend wins a full-ride scholarship. The family in While You
Were Sleeping wins the affection of the woman. A corporation wins a grant
in recognition of excellent safety practices.
