If you were financially independent, would you continue to work?

I'd continue to write.... but only at home and at my leisure.

Fisch, 47
Preston, CT USA

If it was something I enjoyed, probably.

Aly, 17
Cardiff, UK

Yes, but I'd probably cut back my hours a whole lot.

Ryan, 29
Morton, IL USA

I can't imagine not doing something. I might have more liesure to involve myself in things that do not compensate financially.

Felicia, 36
Lowell, MA USA

I think I'd continue to volunteer--volunteers are sorely needed everywhere.

Jill, 61
Saylorsburg, PA USA

Yes. I wouldn't work where I am now but I'd like to work somewhere where I have some responsibility and feel that what I'm doing is important. Those things aren't present in my current place of employment.

Reba, 57
Gaithersburg, MD USA

Isn't the idea of working to MAKE myself financially independent? Anyway, if I were rich I might till do proofreading and writing, but I wouldn't be doing customer service.

Karen, 23
Ames, IA USA

I'd continue to take on projects, but would do more traveling between them.

Jane, 63
West Linn, OR USA

Nope, I'd do my arts/painting/quilting and do volunteer work.

Janet, 45
E. Brunswick, NJ USA

Yes, but I would not work for anyone else. I would write and I would travel and I would work on my own schedule.

Cindy, 41
VA USA

Yes. I like the work that I do and I like my boss and the people that I work with.

Cathie, 53
Novi, MI USA

Of course... I can not not work...I have to work...I may be stuck doing brain dead work until the day I croak...but at least I am good at doing brain dead work...

Spartacus, 31
Thrace

I would absolutely not work in my current industry. However, if I were able to study more about the things that really interested me, I could see myself working in those areas. Because to me,
working can be more than just a way to get the bills paid or to buy luxuries. The money earned can go to help disadvantaged people who don't have the same opportunities to study and earn. And working in a job that is personally satisfying, or having your own business, can be a great
part of a balanced life.

DSW
Detroit, MI USA

why on earth would i? i work at burger king. i'd go get a tan or something and become a killer guitarist.

A-dog, 19
McMinneville, OR USA

Probably, some low paying job that I would truly love. Then again, maybe not, I can think of a lot of "low priority" jobs that need to get done around the house. Or just go from a job to a job. Burger King, Lord & Taylor..... K-Mart(ortherwise known as the Big K).....etc and just screw off all the time..... !!!! But, really I don't know, until posed with the issue. And it is a big choice to me.

Christine, 37
Syracuse, NY USA

I'm a Baptist minister and would certaintly continue to work until such time as I discerned it was God's time to stop. I have promised to God that I would work in my present pastorate for a certain
number of years but if I were (to become) financially independant I might seek another ministry afterwards. I suspect that many might answer this question in a way which reflects how much actual job satisfaction they have.

David, 59
ENGLAND

It depends on whether or not I liked my current job. I would probably stop working and go as far as my Master's Degree at school and then work part-time. The rest of the time, I would spend travelling and learning things about other countries. I would like to learn more about archeology.

Melodi, 19
Gahanna, OH USA

Heck no. Id go back to school ful time forever.

Talia, 25
Tallahassee, FL USA

Yes, I would. I worked for almost five years as a $100/week volunteer.

Laura, 37
Lowell, MA USA

I probably wouldn't do what I do now, but I'd love to own my own business! I think I'd be bored if I just sat at home all day :)

Tracy, 24
Ocean City, NJ USA

I don't think so. I'll probably never know for sure.

Firelady, 24
Frisco, TX USA

I don't think I would. If I find myself bored, I would take up a hobby or shop.

Stephanie, 25
TX USA

Maybe, but probably for myself doing something more satisfying, or I'd work a volunteer job. But I'd also probably work a lot less.

Keri-Jade, 23
Brampton, Ontario CANADA

Yes, I don't think that I could do nothing all day. My brain would turn to mush.

KarenNJ, 25
Milltown, NJ USA

Not so bad. But then again, I believe that everybody's got their somethin'

Keri-Jade, 23
Brampton, Ontario CANADA

Yes. I like having something to do with my day, and not having a job would be so terribly mundane for me. Provided that I like my job, I'd continue working.
