How do you feel about taking a sick day at work when you're really not sick?
I haven't ever
done it, but I'm not that opposed to the idea--we don't really get big
vacations these
days, and I think big vacations are really important because they give
you time to recharge.

Well theres always
a reason why I don't want to go to work like if I'm stressed out I don't
need to be there because I'll end up screaming at everyone and it's probably
better if i'm not there so I don't feel that bad

I usually don't
do it but have done it a few times. It's not something I normally do.
Some days you just need some time off. Of course, I still don't have a
job, so I've had LOTS of sick days lately!

I don't do it very
often, but (for example) my cat was acting funny the other day and if
he had looked like he was going to die on me, or get really sick, I would've
called in sick.

Even when I am
sick I never call off of work. However, if it was something important,
I would do it.

My supervisor and
job are so flexible that I can take time whenever I need it. It's just
not an issue for me.

I usually have
no problem with it! They're really my days to use so why should it matter
when and why I use them. Don't give them out if you don't want them to
be used!

I have no problem
with that at all... except now, in my older years when I could really
use a REAL sick day, I don't get any where I work!! Not paid anyway! Sucks.

That depends on
what the reasoning is. Sometimes folks need breathing room for the sake
of keeping sanity. Other times, there is a special event that work isn't
willing to make room for. These are good enough reasons so long as they
aren't too common.

I freelance so
I don't get any paid days. No work - no pay.

It isn't honest.
Fortunately for me, I don't need to. I've been at my job long enough that
I get three
weeks of vacation. I also have three personal days that I can take as
long as I give my boss a day or two's notice. He also lets me come in
late after early doctor or service person appointments as long as I let
him know ahead of time and make up the hours that I missed.

As I'm a contract
programmer and don't get paid for sick days, or other days off, I take
them when I need them, whatever the reason.

No. In fact, I
have the opposite problem. I find it hard to take sick days when I am
actually sick.

If there is an
officially blurred distinction between "sick days" and "personal
days" I see nothing wrong with taking a "sick" day for
"personal" business. Of course, this habit is open to abuse.

As long as it doesn't
affect my pay or doesn't get me fired or in trouble, I say go for it.

I've never done
that. Its slightly dishonest. I dont care too much if other people do
that, tho.

I haven't done
it in years because now I'm REALLY sick, but when I did, I felt guilty.
Reba,

I've
done it before, but I'm always so guilt ridden during the day I call in
sick, that I really don't enjoy myself. So, I guess what it comes down
to is: Use sick days for when you really are sick!
Tam
Guilty.

I
think it's useful to do it sometimes when you have unplanned family responsibilities
that come up. For example, if you need to stay home with a sick child.
I know in this economy, when I could get laid off work at any time, I'm
less likely to sacrifice my family just so I can go to work
another day. My family are the only people I can count on, I'm not going
to put work ahead of them. The other time I would take a sick day without
being ill is if I was really stressed out and needed a day to adjust my
attitude so I could cope. It serves the same purpose as staying
home when ill in order to get well sooner and keep your co-workers healthy.

I
think if you're sick of the work environment you're sick. A day off can
do a lot for you sometimes.

I
think sick days are really personal days. I really don't get sick that
often, so my sick days are personal days in my mind.
