What
was the most important thing, event, idea of the last year? For me, personal events
eclipsed happenings on the national and international scene.
Jill, 60
Saylorsburg, PA USA
I would be tempted to say the election, but
i believe it was the cracking of the DNA code. Hooray for science!
Talia, 23
Wilton, CT
USA
I'd hafta say the all important
bush/gore fightout.
Stephanie, 25
TX USA
I can't think of anything. As far as I can
remember, it's been a pretty quiet year.
Shanna, 15
Cardiff ENGLAND
My Master's degree. Dammit.
Amy, 24
New Orleans, LA USA
Personally: I changed my lifestyle so that
I'm gradually losing weight and gaining better health. In my country: the recent election
will probably produce economic change, as well as some change in our future election
process. Worldwide: Overthrow of Slbodan Milosevic and the impasse with the Middle East
Laura, 35
Lowell, MA USA
What are you talking about? What year, 1999
or 2000?
Melodi, 19
Hlliard, OH
USA
I don't know. I'm kind of wrapped up in my
own affairs.
Karen, 21
Marshelltown/Ames, IA USA
The most important event of this last year
for me was getting married. God sent me a gorgeous man from India, just for me! Who'd of
guessed India?
Lisa J., 22
TN USA
Probably becoming a registered Metis
and then volenteering and helping to make other people
Metis.
Jaden, 21
Brampton, Ontario CANADA
I guess the presidential election disaster.
Looks like we need to invest in some new equipment!
Susan, 32
Chicago, IL
USA
The Millenium!!!
Gavin, 15
Sydney AUSTRAILA
I think we will find that the completion of
mapping the human genome will as remarkable an event as unlocking nuclear fusion and the
Internet.
Felicia, 34
Lowell, MA
USA
Hmmm... I'm not sure... I've just been
thinking about this year as kind of a doorway to lots of incredible stuff, like technology
and ideas.
Jeremy, 13
Highlands Ranch, CO USA
When Collin Powell decided not to
run for President.
Jami, 27
Lowell, MA
USA
The scope is too wide. There is no way to
identify JUST ONE.
Jane, 60
West Linn, OR
USA
I'm going to answer this on the personal
level...and I'd have to say that the most important thing to me in the past year has been
my boyfriend and the love and support he has given to me in both good times and bad. We
lived together, we moved apart, we argued, we counseled, but most of all we loved and
cared. </end MUSH> Happy Holidays to all
Firelady, 23
Dallas, TX
USA
The most interesting thing was the election
but I'm not sure if that qualifies as important. I think the momentum gained by third
parties is pretty important, but I also believe the truly important stories are never
really reported. Not conspiracy stuff, just corporations owning the media and the
government type stuff.
Alias Irrelevante
Jeez, the most important event is
that Y2K was a complete bust. The most important thing
that happened this year was the love bug, which screwed up computers worldwide. For me
personally, the most important thing that happened was that Mick Foley retired on top of
the wrestling world, just like he wanted.
Bruno, 31
Denver, CO
USA
In my life was when I went to Europe!
Savannah
My son's birth was the most important event
to me in the past year.
Maggie, 20
Sandwich, IL
USA
Most important event? During the Sydney
Olympics, when Cathy Freeman, an Aboriginal, lit the Olympic Cauldron. This tiny event
brought to light the strained relation between the Aborigines, Australia's native people,
and the rest of Australia.
Reba, 51
Rockville, MD
USA
There were so many.... I couldn't even
count. This year has been both the best and the worst years of my life. It's one I'll not
soon forget.
Dianne, 16
Oshawa, Ontario CANADA
The most important event of the year
was the Presidential election of the year and the
events that followed. That certainly made history.
Marci, 55
Diamond, OH
USA
The most
important event I believe was the election. It proved to all American citizens that it is
their civil duty to vote and that their vote DOES count.
Angela, 16
Aiken, SC
USA
Ummm, this is a hard one.... I think
the advances in genetics/medicine/science were some of
the greatest and at the same time scary occurances of the year. The elections ceratainly
changed how we look at politics today.Hmmm, many importan things happened, i'm just not
thinking of them right now.
Sarah S., 17
Ithaca, NY
USA
The
Netherlands became the first country in the world to allow same-sex couples to legally
marry and have the same rights as opposite-sex couples.
Eric, 18
Beverly Hills, CA USA
Having my sister turn 40. She didn't want to
acknowledge it at all. She's still telling people she is 25. But my other sister and
I had a surprise 40th birthday party for her. Watching her face as she walked into the
room was priceless.
