Now that it seems over, what do you think about the U.S. Presidential election?

I am happy that such confusion and chaos was not met with a coupe as might have been the case with other nations in the world. Can't say that I really feel our political system represents the vast and diverse interests of the country that are not wealthy and powerful though.

Also it was pretty amazing to see how the country is split between democrat and rebublican. Made me think we may very well be two separate entities.

I imagine that in each sovereign and independent state of the United States that voting procedures will be examined and reevaluated.

I think everyone made a big deal outta nothing. Bush had the most anyways from the get-go and Gore is just whining cuz he was vice pres. but nobody liked him well enough for the chief. This so could've been over 3 weeks ago.

What junk. Can we get some real news, please?

I'm glad that George Bush got elected

I am as pleased as you can be that Bush won, but I can't find anyone who agrees with me. I didn't want Al Gore to win because I think he's under his wife's control and I don't like her. But it provided the newspapers with something to write about I guess.

The Us one, right? I think it's gross and embarassing.  People have been saying that they think voter turn-out will increase with the next election, but I don't see how that's possible -- everyone knows now that in the Us that votes don't count. 'That the prez is elected by the few and not by the population. It's really too bad it turned out this way, because I think Gore would have been a good president. And after all this, he probably won't run again, which is way too sad in my books.  The Canadian one? Turned out exactly as I would have wanted it. Thank you very much for asking.

I loved following it. I listened to all my favorite NPR talk shows: The Connection, Talk of the Nation whenever I could. It was better than the best gossip. The whole process was fascinating.  I can't wait for Round 2, Congressional Gridlock.

I believe that the people of the United States benefitted by having it clearly demonstrated that our system of government works overall despite many substantive and procedural glitches. The extraordinary thing is that we were not daunted by the delays and uncertanties but simply carried on, confident that the dispute would be peacefully resolved. Al Gore's declaration that "While I strongly disagree with the court's position, I accept it" exemplifies that Americans do respond to the rule of law "for the sake of our unity and the strength of our democracy."

Reluctantly, I also concur with Justice Stevens , who said, "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the law." But we still accept the judge's powers.

I think I have other things to worry about. I mean, Bush is scary, but my life is scarier right now.

I wrote in Ventura this year. Four years from now I'll be filling in the oval next to the name 'Ventura.' What I don't get is all the people who can't understand why it went to  court. When you have all these companies paying millions of dollars so one guy can get a job that pays less than a quarter mil, there's obviously something to fight for and if the fight is that close the fight is going to get ugly.

But the highlight of it for me was when so many people who have been complaining about the allegedly liberal media for years suddenly decided to trust the media when it was announced that their state had already

Well, now that it's over, I think it's great that Bush won the election. I voted for him. And I also think that the press made too big a deal of the whole situation. But then again, when they find something to report on, they'll suck the blood out of anything. But, it's good that its over. Go Bush, Go Bush,...

Now that it is over, I am happy. I was tired of the whole thing anyway. People start campaigning for the White House two years in advance of election day. Isn't that ridiculous? Let's just move on and enjoy our Holiday season.

I think that it's time to move to Canada, now that the rights of anyone who isnt rich, white, straight, and male are going to go straight down the tubes.

I think that what happened with this election was a tragedy, for our country and for the democratic process. I know it's over, but I still wish that Gore could have prevailed. The world would be a much better place.

I found this election confusing (to say the least!) and didn't follow it on TV or in the paper. However, my husband was obssessed with it and listening to him jabber on and on, I picked up more than I want to know. On the news this morning they said that according to polls taken (where do these polls come from? I don't know ANYONE who has ever been polled!) over half of all Americans think the election was unfair and that this country is going to the dogs. So I feel sorry for the president-elect.

Oh God. So much to say. ...It did get a lot of people out to vote that had been staying home before, which is a good thing. What is startling is the degree to which it seems this country is divided -- the race was practically 50-50, the House is nearly 50-50, the Senate IS 50-50, the Supreme Court decision was similarly double-headed...I hadn't realized exactly how partisan the country was until I saw this.

I'm seriously wondering if anything is going to get done because of this. ...I also was a little disappointed in Gore -- even though I   voted for him -- because it just seemed after a while that he was delaying the inevitable. I'm afraid that won't look good for him the next time he tries running. And I'm pretty sure he will try running again...

I think it is time for our country to get back in order with things. I think it was not necessary for our country to go through what it has for the last thirty something days. We as a country will have to try to go on without bitterness to any one country. I think President elect Bush did the right thing to fight back, if he had not he would have appeared to be a weak president so I am glad that he did fight back. I hope this does not appear to other countries that we are weak or not together. I think our country has split in two different ways as there are alot if issues for both parties. But I am glad it is finally over with and President elect Bush can get on with the countries business.

I'm a Nader fan, so I think both of the other guys are bums, like, it was a contest between dumb and dumber. The process was ugly, sloppy, messy, and highly political, but in the end the process worked. At least I know who I can complain about for the next 4 years.

Mick, 30

I still don't have a clue what was going on with it. I didn't pay attention to the news that much and I don't know what happened for the last month. I hope they keep whatever decision they made, though, the inauguration ball is only a few weeks away.
