Would you be willing to commit perjury for a close friend?

Good question. I wouldn't because I think a real friend wouldn't ask a friend to commit perjury. Therefore, if someone asked me to, I'd know he/she was just looking out for himself. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even commit perjury for one of my kids. That would just  teach them that they don't have to take responsibility for their actions.

No. It would be a very tough thing to do, but morally I just could not do that for anyone.

Tam

I don't think so. Depends on circumstances.

This is one tough question for me. I've only had about 2 close friends in my whole life and am a bit scared of doing anything to lose their friendship. So as much as I value honesty, I'd have to say "yes", I'd probably commit perjury.

In an ideal world, a close friend would never ask such a thing of me. I couldn't imagine I would be a part in that, nor would I ask it of someone else.

Eech... Probably not. Not that I'm not a good friend, but I couldn't risk that because of my son. I would lie for him, though... hee!

No, because if you swear on the Bible and then lie, you are lying to God.

It depends on the circumstances. But I have a hard time lying about things. I carry a heavy guilt load.

No way, not even for a family member.

No never. I have told some sugar coated truths. Where it forced the defendant and the plaintiff to say things with a result a hung decision.

I would not commit perjury for myself. If a close friend asked me to lie, I would re-examine the friendship.

I highly doubt it.

Probably not, but I'd have to review the situation in context.

No.

The situation would have to be extreme, because my general policy is "don't do it if you don't want to get caught and then pay the consequences." So I'd have to feel that the law was really in the wrong and my friend was really REALLY in the right. There's no question about the fact that I'm extremely loyal, but I'm also a pretty fair person, I think.

No way. I don't lie for anyone.

No. I cannot tell a lie.

Yep. Loyalty to a fault in my blood.

It would depend on the friend, the circumstances, and knowledge of the consequences. If it was a true friend and they were in life or death trouble, then yes, but the burden on my conscience would be very hard to carry.

The only one I would even consider committing perjury for would be my brother...and I can not even guarantee I would do that...the law means too much too me to break it, unless the law is blatantly wrong...
